Passive Scapula Mobilisation
Here’s an easy way to passively mobilise the scapula to encourage the patient to switch off excessive neuromuscular “holding”.
Some patients may respond to the cue “Allow your shoulder blade to be as heavy as possible” whereas others might find “Allow your shoulder blade to be as light as possible” to be more effective. The excessive myofascial tension you are targeting is that which attaches from the Scapula to the Cervical spine and from the Scapular to the Thoracic Spine. Note my Right hand support position of Sam’s forearm. Place your forearm such that it supports the forearm in a balanced way, thus keeping the patients Glenohumeral joint in a neutral position.
